Mrs. Hanebutt's Third Graders are the "Apple of God's Eye".  You have been created by God uniquely and specially. We are so special to Him that He sent His only Son to die for us and rise again, so that one day we will live with Him in heaven.  God will keep us as the apple of His eye today, each day this year in third grade, and each day for the rest of our lives!  Praise and thanks be to God!

THIS WEEK IN THIRD GRADE

DATE:  August 30 – September 3

MEMORY:  12 books of history due on Tuesday and 1 John 4:11 due on Thursday.

SPELLING:  The long vowel words with silent “e” are on the attached sheet.

READING:  Read Dear Juno.  Continue to work on character, setting, and plot.  We will use context clues to find meanings to our vocabulary words.  We will study a time line.

ENGLISH:  Commands and exclamations.

RELIGION:  “The Fall” and “Cain and Abel”.  The law shows us we need a Savior.  The Gospel shows us who that Savior is – Jesus.  God’s love and forgiveness make the difference in our heart and in our attitude.

MATH:  Complete Chapter 4 on addition.  Practice test will come home Tuesday and Thursday will be our test in class.  Practice tests should be checked by parents and then please go over and correct any missed problems, so that your child is prepared for the test on Thursday.  I ask parents to “check, sign and return” the pretest to school by the due date.  Thanks for helping your child to prepare for their first test in math.

SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES:  See last week’s note.  We’re still sharing our “me bags”!  We FINALLY started Science and Social Studies on Friday.

OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Thank you to everyone who made it to Back to School night.  The attendance was spectacular!  Remember:  call or email me if you ever have any questions.

Check out these websites: www.spellingcity.com and www.typinggame.net.  I have included them on third grade links on www.teachersofhope.com.

Information for our first book report is in this Friday folder.  Your child is asked to choose a fiction chapter book by Friday, September 3rd.  I have many books in the classroom to help them in this selection or the children may go to the library.  It is important to get a book that is at your child’s reading level.  The reports will be due on Monday, October 4th, so our grandparents will get to see our display!

Just a thank you and a reminder:  you are a valuable part of your child’s education.  Especially with the harder workload, it is important that you daily check your child’s progress and reinforce concepts that are challenging for your child.  Keep up the good work, students and parents.  We are trying to fill out our homework sheets and be accurate.  This is difficult for some of us, but we will improve.  Remember to see me if you have any concerns.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
