Biography Book Report

Your next book report is a biography book report.  This report is due on February 16th.  This gives over four weeks to read your book and complete the required work.  Each child will be reading the same book, Helen Keller, by Margaret Davidson.

A question page is attached.  This is part of the report.  Please use complete sentences when answering each question.  Please proofread for spelling errors and grammatical errors.

Another part of the report is to create a timeline of Helen Keller.  Please use the website on www.teachersofhope.org.  Go to third grade links.  Find the first choice.

You are limited to 8 events for your timeline, so choose the 8 dates you feel are the most important in Helen Keller’s life.  Her birth and death should be the first and last, so choose 6 other significant events.  The children are familiar with this timeline because they used it to create their timeline of their life.

The last part of your report is to find or draw pictures and/or information about Helen Keller.  You can use other books, the internet, encyclopedias, etc.  Each child needs at least 6 pictures or other information pieces taken from the internet or books.

You will then assemble a poster book report at school.  I will supply the posterboard.  Your poster will display your question page, timeline, and pictures.  You will design your own poster at school!

 Timeline for completing your report:

1.     Read your book and take notes about important events.

2.     Answer the questions on the “question page” in complete sentences.  The question page is NOT AVAILABLE online.

3.     Do your timeline.  (8 events are required on the timeline.)

4.     Find or make pictures to add to your poster. (At least 6 are required.)

5.     Bring your “question page”, timeline, and pictures to school on Wednesday, February 16th.

6.      We will assemble our posters in school on February 17 – 18.

A rubric is also attached, so you know how your report will be graded.

You do not need the story plot question sheet for this report, since it is a biography and a non-fiction book.

Story Plot – Ideas for writing summaries and

Question Worksheet

What is a book’s plot?  Remember the plot is the book’s story.  When you write a summary of the plot, pretend you are telling the story to a friend.  Be sure to answer this question:  What happens in the book?  BUT FIRST, begin your paragraph with the name of your book and the author.  Then name the characters and tell the setting (when and where) of the story.  Now continue with the summary of the plot.

Try to organize your thoughts and think what happens in the beginning?  Mention the character and the setting (where and when) and begin telling what happens first, next, until you get to the last.  Usually there is a problem in a story and you will tell the problem and how the problem was solved.

Remember: you only need to tell important details from the book for the summary.

Please use this form to help you:

First tell the title of your book._______________________

Then tell the author._______________________________

Next tell the setting (where and when) of the book

________________________________________________

Now tell what happens at the beginning of the book: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Then tell the problem in the story: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Then tell how the characters solve the problem: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Then what happens, ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

At the end of the story, ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Once you’ve answered all these questions, you should be able to put these thoughts in Paragraph form and complete your summary part of your book report.

You will be asked to turn in this worksheet along with your report.  Thanks.
